To the Woman Who has Everything But Feels Empty

Has everything in life but empty - a collage. How to live a fulfilled life

I read a post online of a young woman lamenting that, although she has everything she wants in life, she feels that there is an unshakeable void. Her life is not fulfilled. She concluded that when she felt most happiest was when she was in an intimate relationship. And so she fundamentally answered her dilemma – an intimate relationship was what filled the void, but I want to expand on this more profoundly.

Life isn’t Perfect But…

Life is not perfect and everyone is going to face one trial or another. Much of our upsets, stresses and disappointments stem from our relationships and interactions with people. Whether that’s family dynamics, work politics, church, members of the public, you name it, at some point amongst at least one dynamic there’s going to be a falling out. It highlights that no one is perfect, and nor is any relationship on earth. But when you have a relationship with Jesus Christ – that’s what foundationally makes you whole. It’s the love of Jesus that fills your cup each day because he is there by your side ready to help you with ANYTHING, when you call.

“Having It All” Isn’t Enough

This young woman had everything, she had a home, a car, a good career, good health, hobbies, friends and family – Essentially she’s ticked the boxes to have a seemingly fulfilled life. Yet, she still feels empty and is waiting for something to genuinely fulfil her. She wants to feel something ‘that lasts’. Jesus said that if we open the door to him when he knocks, he will come in and dine with us. Jesus wants to be in our lives every second, every moment of our day and show us what it means to be loved. He wants to lead you to tranquil and picturesque places in your neighbourhood you never would have thought was there. He wants to lead you to that restaurant you keep looking at but passing by – but oh my the food is delicious! He wants to use people to show you favour. He wants to give you the spouse you need. He wants to lead you to that amazing job. He wants to answer your concerns and worries about where to live and which church to be part of. He wants to help you plan your day and direct your steps – because HE is PERFECT and HE is LOVE.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

psalm 68:19

The Lord Jesus knows everything, sees everything, is all powerful, and everything is under his control. When you love him and put your trust in him, you’re on a one way track to living a fulfilled life here on earth. Pray to Jesus like he is your best friend, your husband, your mentor, your everything – because he is! I mean the Bible literally talks of God being a husband to us (Isaiah 54:5). The benefits of having a relationship with God as your number one is endless. Even when trials and difficulty presents itself, you’ll be smiling and even laughing everyday because God’s got you! Because he knows just how to make you smile even when you’re facing your battles. He knows how to use earthly pleasures to fill your cup because your heart, mind and soul is set on him.

Will having A Relationship Make Me Fulfilled?

Now this young woman said that despite having everything right now (she’s currently single), she felt most alive when she was in a genuine intimate relationship. In marriage, you have someone who is your best friend, who looks out for you, who loves you, who appreciates you, who makes you smile and more. It’s a wonderful sacred bond that God has created for mankind so that we feel loved and cherished. But the model of love stems from having a relationship with Jesus Christ as number one. To reiterate, you’ll have a perfect model of what love is, so that you can be loving to others and you’ll know when you’re receiving genuine love too. So even when you’re in a loving relationship, it’s important to remember that it is Jesus who will make it full.

The thief [satan] cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I [Jesus] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

john 10:10

Jesus Wants to Bless you With a Fulfilled Life

When you realise that you are precious to God, you’ll be led to creating a beautiful life for yourself no matter what. Don’t allow anything to lead you away from Jesus because it will lead to problems that may have consequences. Jesus wants to bless you in on earth and in heaven! God will answer your hearts desires, but first seek him – he knows what’s best for you and he is able to mend the broken and empty hearted.

Edit: And just by providence the same day I posted this, I afterward read my church’s devotional for this day and it buttressed what I’ve written – That’s how God works! He is just so amazing and worthy to be praised!
