Quote of the day – Don’t be Puffed up by beauty

Don’t let people telling you, you are pretty puff you up; because you didn’t make yourself, and so you cannot be praised. It is virtue and goodness only that make the true beauty

Hello friends. This is a quote I came across inside a book I am reading titled Pamela by Samuel Richardson. I have only just begun, but it’s a book about a young girl who maintains her virtue and sincerity despite all the attempts to mar her character. ‘Don’t be puffed up by beauty, because you didn’t make yourself’ – I must be honest it made me chuckle a bit because of the frankness of it, but how clearly into perspective it was put. It certainly is a humbling quote!

Pamela Or Virtue Rewarded by Samuel Richardson - don't be puffed up by beauty

I learnt about the book after visiting the National Portrait Gallery and it being mentioned in one of the paintings.

Have a lovely day!
