Don’t Help the Devil By Dressing Immodestly
Ladies, I’m sure that many of you, like me, find that hearing the truth can be incredibly liberating – especially in areas where our conscience has been wrestling upon it for some time. Modesty is one area, and it’s not an easy topic to talk about but it must be discussed more frequently in today’s society. Let us ensure that we are not advancing the devil’s work by dressing immodestly.

It’s summertime, the weather is glorious; sun’s out, temperatures are high. Yet it seems to be a license for both men and women to dress scantily, leaving little of their body to the imagination. How far downhill we have gone today in regards to how we dress. Just less than 100 years ago, there would be policemen at beaches ready with a measuring tape to ensure women’s bathing suits were not too short. For 2000 years, women globally wore dresses that were very modest. The majority of women around the world were fully coveted, and many cultures, the UK included, even covered their heads too. Society back then took modesty seriously, and valued their virtue.
What would people from the 1800s think about the way we dress today?
I honestly think that many would cry. They would cry and lament at how shameless we have become in our conduct and decorum. They would wonder how on earth society would find certain dress styles appropriate for public view. The answer is sin. Sin ladies is what ultimately leads to dressing immodestly and allowing the devil to tempt in wearing ostentatiously immodest outfits. Sometime I wonder with shock how certain ladies could comfortably walk out of their house with what they have on but then I remember that once was I – once was I that was lost to sin in my own way but by the Grace of God he pricked my heart to the point I repented and sought to live a sanctified life!

“But she’s a Christian and is dressing like that”
I have come across many female social media accounts where the majority of their post are themselves immodestly dressed. Essentially showcasing parts of their body that should not be for public consumption. ‘Curiousity killed the cat’ got the best of me as I usually watched a reel of theirs that was particularly good and was curious to see what else they posts. It was so unfortunate to see just the first few images from their profile. What was even more unfortunate is that in their description bio, it would usually have phrase such as “Jesus is my Saviour”, “Daughter of God”, or a quote from the Bible.
To the young girl or woman who’s just starting out in their Christian walk, would probably take that as a sign to dress in the same way. You may think it’s not possible, but I used to think like that when I was younger. If I looked up to certain women who professed Christ in their heart, I would be ‘encouraged’ to do the same things they did, albeit questionable. I was weak in my faith and did not know better because I was not studying my Bible.

Do not be deceived young girls, if unsure about what you’re wearing then pray! The Lord is very faithful to speak to your conscience on what is modest or not. Discern the spirit! There are plenty wolves in sheeps clothing, and just because someone says they are Christian doesn’t mean that they are! God has given us eyes, and with that we can judge a character based on what they wear.
Charity begins at home
Oftentimes when I behaved badly at home, my mum in her chastisement would say charity begins at home. The home is the training ground for girls as they grow into womanhood and more mothers need not be naive of the pulls and seductive attractions of this world. Once they leave the home off to university, there will be many danger zones that theyll have to navigate through. And if they are not a born again Christian, then the vices they taste may utterly consume them to the point of unrecognition. FurtherMore, mods fathers need to take a reign on their daughter’s actions and ensure that she leaves the house with a good impression.
Modesty is Elegance
Ladies we need to watch our heart and our motives. The heart of man is desperately wicked and we should guard our hearts and minds from the enemy that seeks to stoop us so low. Showing one’s bosom, cleavage area, too much thighs, all the contours of your body through tight clothing then you are dressing immodestly. The trend today is wearing a crop top. Showing your midriff is in my opinion immodest.
Don’t give room for men to look at you with ravenous eyes, you will have to answer for it! Don’t dress licentiously to attract attention, you will only ruin yourself! I saw a young girl the other day and what she was wearing wasn’t so immodest, but she kept having to adjust herself so as to protect her dignity. When it comes to that point, one should know that the outfit is not appropriate for public wear.

How beautiful it would be too see more young girls and women dressing decently! How transforming it will be for their character and also for the men. Unfortunately immodest dressing has crept into the church and men complain to their pastors because of the temptation they are experiencing in the house of the Lord. Ladies do not be a stumbling block. Everyone will have to answer for their own actions.
Dressing modestly is just one part building your character
Dressing well is important and we must pay attention to what exactly we wear, that it is modest. Let us judge righteously and pray for those who are weak in the faith or who do not know God. But at the same time let us not be deceived, for someone can dress like a virtuous maiden and yet have the heart of Delilah.
Young girls, if only you dressed more decently!
Recently I went to a park with my children, and saw one young girl dressed improperly. It was very improper and she was at the park with her mother and her toddler. My first thought was that this is not what a young pretty girl should be wearing to a place where mothers and fathers will be attending with their children. My other thought was that if she were my sister I would have many talks with her about the importance of dress and how you will be perceived in society. What a lovely young girl she would appear to be if she wore a lovely summer dress instead! But all I could do in that moment was pray for her and let the Lord do his work.

The same message goes for young girls and women, please dress decently – it is one step to becoming a refined lady who will be respected. Don’t give occasion for inviting looks and allowing your body to objectified by weak men! There’s a lot of power in the woman, it’s in your hands!
To conclude, Paul said, don’t focus merely on the outward adorning but pay attention to the inward heart (1 Peter 3:3. By accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, believing that he is the Son of God can one truly live a Godly and righteous life. May God help us all.
